We hear all the time how to “get blessings” “be successful” “prosper” “live in abundance” and so forth. All the ways of how we can get more from God, but not many will ask “What should I give up or give to God?” “What does God want from me?”

Before beginning my walk with Christ, I too, never really thought of things I needed to change to better please God. I was always under the impression that if I kept praying and believing then I’d be blessed with the things I desired. Which is partially true, but not quite.

You see, following Christ is so much more than just praying for the things we want (or think we want). It’s actually more giving than it is receiving.

Acts 20:35 — I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. (kjv)

The Bible mentions many times how significant and pleasing to our Father, it is to give. We also know that Jesus was all about giving and helping others. Allowing himself to be used by God. He focused more on God’s will, rather his own.

One of the beautiful things about God is, he’ll actually let us have what we want.. just to show us its not necessarily what we need. To teach us. Reveal to us things we need to know. Because we must first give to receive. We must decrease as he increase.

What have you given up for God? Do the things you do daily brings God glory? Does the music and movies you watch brings you closer to the Father? Are your actions towards others a reflection of our Lord Savior Jesus Christ? These are things to ask ourselves.

We don’t want to use God. We want to please him and be counted worthy to enter into his kingdom. The world have painted an incorrect perception of who God is to us. Yes, he’s a helper, provider, comforter, teacher, lover, corrector, and so much more! As loving and mighty God is, wouldn’t you want to be sure you are truly living the way he intends for us to?

So how do we please God? What should we give to God?

For starters, we please God by keeping his 10 commandments:

  • Thou shall have no other gods before me.
  • Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image
  • Thou shall not take the name Lord thy God in vain
  • Remember the sabbath day, to keep holy
  • Honor thy father and thy mother
  • Thou shalt not kill
  • Thou shalt not commit adultery
  • Thou shalt not steal
  • Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
  • Thou shalt not covet

It’s also how we show our Father we love and know him. We should give to him our full trust, belief, and faith. We give him our lifestyles of holiness and righteousness. We love one another as he have loved us! We help those in need and weak. We live God’s word in spirit and in truth.

I challenge you to go to our Father and pray to him. Ask him what does he want you to give up for him? What is it that he is requiring of you? Ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you. Speak to you. Reveal to you. God hears and sees all things. He wants us to yield and obey him. Let him! God be with you all.

Peace and Love.
